BAG Harvest Celebration this Saturday
After the success of our first gardening workshop BAG have a harvest party/BBQ planned this Saturday the 5th of September.
THE BAG HARVEST CELEBRATION WILL TAKE PLACE ON THE DOUGLAS EYRE PLAYING FIELDS, 12 midday to 3.30pm.
WHY COME?
Plans are afoot to create a community garden, and we’d like residents to contribute their ideas and opinions on the scheme.
BBQ – Bring your own food to be cooked and share with others.
Apple pressing – We’ve got an apple press and are collecting apples this Friday (email if you want to help). Come along and make your own juice!
Help to build a compost bin on the site of the community gardens.
Chance to meet your neighbours and learn more about BAG and local issues.
WHO CAN COME?
You! – Family, friends and of course children are welcome.
HOW TO JOIN IN?
Turn up. If you can bring food to cook on the BBQ plus bottles for the juice you make on the apple press.
Bring more apples (or pears) if you want extra juice!

STOP PRESS: PUT PARROT POSTING PEOPLE IN PRISON
Owners of missing parrots (and residents groups) beware, the council is watching you.
After putting posters on many of the trees in the area advertising Saturdays residents get-together we received this email from the council:
“It has been noted that your group has placed posters around the Blackhorse Road and St James Street area advertising a Harvest Celebration on Saturday 5th September 2009.
This type of advertising is classified as fly posting as you have no permission to attach them to street furniture, which includes trees and you must remove them immediately.
An officer will be inspecting the location tomorrow afternoon after 2pm and if the posters have not been removed evidence will be collected with a view to taking legal action.”
Congratulations are at least due for very swift action. They may not be able to organise refuse collection, provide a local library service, work out what to do with the arcade site after 7 years, achieve any meaningful redevelopment of the Blackhorse Road station area, support an iconic cinema or a world renowned dog track but they’re red hot on community get-togethers.
