Debut for new Victoria Line trains
Passengers catching the last tube home got an unexpected try of the first new Victoria Line trains for 10 years. On Tuesday July 22nd the 23:55 Seven Sisters – Brixton passenger service was provided by one of the new trains. From 2010 LU will be introducing one new train every two weeks replacing the 1967 trains entirely in time for the Olympics.
The trains are not markedly different to existing carriages, save for more room for standing passengers and fold down seats (similar to those on the Northern Line).
When all 47 new trains are in service journey times on the Victoria Line will be reduced by 16%, with capacity up by almost 20% (according to London Undergrounds Press blurb).
