MORE NEWS ON EMD FIGHT
The Archipelago of Truth accuses local politicians like Stella Creasy of using the “deceptive little politician’s phrase “open for the use of all the local community” which is “not the same as having a cinema as envisaged by the McGuffins, ie the EMD restored in all its glory and showing flicks in the main hall in all its glory“.  BAG notes that under the UCKG plans the building would not be open to all the community (unless of course they want to go to a church service).

No you havent clicked on the BNP site by mistake, these are the views Labour & the Lib Dems prefer to the repeatedly expressed wish of Walthamstow residents for the building to remain a church.

I think you mean “remain a cinema”.

I don’t see a problem with “open to all the community” – an assembly rooms or concert hall would also be good from my perspective – the cinema seems the most commercially viable option though.

No I meant “Save the EMD”, although perhaps “re-open the EMD” would be better. I wouldnt see a problem with open to all the community but everyone knows this is not going to be the case if the Church overturns the previous rejection of planning permission.

Their commitment to the community was amply demonstarated by their complete refusal to put forward anyone to meet or consult in the community. Stella Creasy herself expressed her own frustration at the church refusing her request to do so.
So they seriously claim to be open to all the community but refuse to engage that community for their views?

Also only a tiny area of the building would be open for community use. The main cinema auditorium would be strictly for the use of their 4 services a day.

The UCKG are not offering an assembly room or concert hall for the community.

  3. Michael says:

I’m sure they’d allow a screening of The Passion of The Christ, but what about Brokeback Mountain…?

  4. Jane says:

Can you people just back off – if thy wan to open the cinema as a church let them goodness all tthis nonesense just for a silly cinema we have enough of them round london

  5. Wanda says:

@Jane This isn’t just some old church. The UCKG were the ones that said Victoria Climbie was possessed by demons, have been investigated for fraud and are extremely homophobic.
